This page is completely my own personal opinion (so don't take it personally). Please feel free to send your comments to me about what you think should be on this list!

Please check out the Internet Movie Database for all the information on any movie you are interested about!

First, before you see my personal top ten list, here is a list of the Internet Movie Database's top ten martial-arts movies that have received at least one hundred votes:

10. (tie) Feiying gaiwak (Operation Condor): 1990
10. (tie) Ngo hai sui (Who am I?): 1998

My personal opinion of this list is that these are decent movies, but these aren't necessarily the best or in the order that I would place them. So here would be my all time list of great martial arts movies:

Jay's Personal Opinion Top Ten

1. Enter the Dragon (1973) - This Bruce Lee classic is the standard by which all martial arts movies are measured (and fall short of!). The plot, dialog, characters and acting is superb, not to mention the karate techniques demonstrated are among the best ever captured on film!

2. The Seven Samurai (1954) - This black and white Japanese epic was the inspiration for such great films as The Magnificent Seven (a western) and not-so-great films like The Seven Magnificent Gladiators (fantasy), Dune Warriors (also a fantasy), Diki Vostok (a Russian western), and Battle Beyond the Stars (a science fiction fantasy). Most recently, the animated movie, A Bug's Life, is loosely based on this movie as well. The story, about seven uniquely different Samurai who band together to save a small farming town from bandits is nothing less than awesome! The swordsmanship is excellent.

3. Rapid Fire (1992) - Brandon Lee was probably the most talented of the contemporary martial arts actors. The choreography and story line are great in this film.

4. Rumble in the Bronx (1995) - Jackie Chan's best movie. He lives, breathes, and exudes excitement throughout the entire film. What a great ride if you are looking for a good 2 hour vacation from life!

5. Return of the Dragon (1972) - The climactic fight scene between Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris in the Roman Coliseum at the end of this movie is one of the all time great fight scenes. The portrayal of mutual respect between the combatants during the fight is one of the best ever filmed.

6. Bloodsport (1988) - Jean-Claude Van Damme's best movie about Frank Dux competition in a series of no-holds barred kumite matches uses the vehicle to highlight several styles of martial art and pulls it off effectively.

7. The Octagon (1980) - Chuck Norris is great in this movie which intentionally starts slow, then builds towards the climatic fight scenes that ultimately occur in the ninja compound known as the Octagon!

8. Under Siege (1992) - Steven Seagal's portrayal of a ship's cook who takes on terrorists makes this movie like Die Hard on a ship!

9. Lone Wolf McQuade (1983) - The thing I liked about this movie is how they obviously didn't take themselves too seriously! I mean, how many movies can you say where the hero has his best friend killed, his partner beat up, his girlfriend kidnapped, his family terrorized, his daughter's boyfriend shot, his daughter pushed off a cliff before being kidnapped, and his star witness killed, with him not getting upset. Its only after the bad guys kill his DOG that he goes on a rampage to get revenge!

10. They Call Me Bruce? (1982) - This movie is one of the few movies that I have ever seen that spoofs karate movies and does so with some pretty good karate! Chances are, you haven't seen this movie - but you should!

Well, that's it. If you have any comments, please feel free to send them along!
